Wind Break Project

Natal Midlands
2013

In preparation for the building of the house on a very wind-swept hill, we were commissioned to design and build natural wind breaks to protect the home. The first phase of this project consisted of cutting the platform for the house, stockpiling the top soil and constructing soil berms with excess material.  Phase 2 included re-seeding the berms and planting a series of indigenous wind breaks.  Much of the wind break research and subsequent design work was based on information provided by various Mid-western universities.  Their technical expertise in this regard is amongst the best in the world.
